Project Overview
Objective: Creating an app designed to connect others and streamline existing processes, bringing them into the digital age.
Design Focus: UI/UX Design
I created an app centered around the idea of utilizing a digital platform to connect a religious community. Later named "Communion", this app was born out of the idea of wanting an all-in-one place where parish members could more easily participate in church activities, inspired by my own experiences.
I began with a review of other social apps, noting that the primary difference being that my concept was not to sell a product, but to promote an existing community. Knowing this standout factor, I then created a persona. This persona ended up being a 55 year old woman, Margaret, who recently moved to a new area and wanted to revitalize her spiritual life and make new friends alongside her husband. She was somewhat proficient with technology but was no expert. This informed my app design the whole way through, I deliberately kept the design simple and easy to understand for any user. With my persona in mind, I moved onto the competitive analysis.
Competitive Analysis and Sketches
My competitive analysis was essential to creating my flows, or the paths that users would take to complete a given task. I studied various apps and their different flows to understand the general layout.
Once I finished this analysis, I began to create my own through low-fidelity wireframe sketches. These were crucial as I figured out the large and small details of my app, and where basic functions would be located. I had to make a few changes with feedback, but the overall process made the transfer to screen much smoother.
